Seminole Nation

The Seminole Nation originally occupied Florida and the Miccosukee Tribe of  Florida. During the Trail of Tears they were forced to leave there homelands and move to Indian Territory in present Day Oklahoma. Many of our Native American Ancestors  Surnames may be names you are familiar with in your own family lines.

Orange Mound, Memphis Tennessee

Orange Mound is the first African American Community built solely by African Americans. Orange Mound is a community in Memphis founded in 1890. The land is on a former plantation that was sold to Blacks. The families that reside there today are those that have been there through generations.

Blackdom, New Mexico

The town of Blackdom was founded in the early 1900's  by Francis Marion Boyer in New Mexico. By 1908 the town had a population of 300 people a newspaper, church, school and local businesses.  After crop failure and other calamities the town depopulated around the 1920's. All that is left of this Black Town is a Postal Account Book for Blackdom 1912-1920.
